Karen Owens, and her team of Train-to-Adopt volunteers work with shelter dog to teach basic obedience, not only making them more adoptable, but keeping them mentally and emotionally healthy during their shelter stay. • Increase adoptions
  • Decrease stress, stress related behaviors and lower arousal
  • Collect data to generate and develop future programs

Take Your Dog to Work Day

First celebrated in 1999, Take Your Dog To Work Day was created to celebrate the great companions dogs make and to encourage their adoption from humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue clubs. This annual event asks pet lovers to celebrate the humane-canine bond and promote pet adoption by encouraging employers to open their workplace to employees’ pets.

The fee is $10 per dog. If you plan to bring more than one dog, or if you’d simply like to make an additional donation, adjust the COUNT in your shopping cart to the desired amount.

A Rescued Flurry!
| Sep 25th, 2012

My name is Melissa and I’m “Flurry’s” mommy! I work for an Animal Care & Control Division in North Carolina. In 2008 , the organization I work for was called to assist a neighboring county with a large animal hoarding bust (400-500 animals.) My job on this day was supposed to be administrative, however because of the overwhelming numbers, I quickly suited up in Haz-mat gear and spent the day with a co-worker helping unload animals off of the trucks and trailers from the hoarding site, processing them with a photo and id band and putting them in clean kennels.

My Breast Cancer Life Saver!!!!!
| Sep 19th, 2012

2009 is a year I would love to forget. In January, I was layed off from my job; May, lost my house as a result of the job loss; July, lost my long-term relationship to alcoholism; August, had to file bankruptcy; and in October, was diagnosed with ADH/DCIS breast cancer. By the time my treatments were final in December, I really didn’t want to get out of bed for fear of what tragedy might hit me next. At that time, I had a 17 year old cat who loved that she could snuggle with me all day long. She was a great source of comfort.

A Miracle Named Murphy
| Sep 17th, 2012

I lost my dad and best friend in November 2010. I had been thinking about a dog for a while, but had not done it because of the commitment and my work schedule. This time, however, it began to feel like I needed something to focus on to bring me out of the funk I was in.

I was emotionally and mentally shutting down and my mom couldn’t smell!
| Sep 13th, 2012

Long story short – after breaking up with an old boyfriend who I dated over 3 years, I also found out I would not be graudating on time because I was 6 credits short of the graduation requirements. Slowly getting over the break up and the fact my 5 year college plan was now a 6 year plan – my apartment caught on fire.
